Hoylake baker’s chocolate cake crowned Britain’s best
A decadent chocolate layer cake made by a Hoylake baker has been named Britain’s best.
Created by Abba Cakes owner Laura Johnson, it got the judges vote ahead of more than 100 other entries in seven categories at the UK Food and Drink Shows at the NEC in Birmingham. Read more.

West Kirby RNLI is looking for new volunteers.
They are recruiting lifeboat crew, launch vehicle drivers and shore crew, who have availability during weekdays and/or weekends, and who live or work locally. Read more.
The Coral guitarist to headline final gigs at Arts Centre
West Kirby Arts Centre is to close for good later this month with three sell-out gigs headlined by The Coral guitarist Paul Molloy.
West Kirby Today revealed last month that the centre is to be converted into a home for owner Tony Woof and his wife. Read more.

Things to do - what’s on!
In a new exhibition at the LAKE Gallery in West Kirby (see above), landscape and beloved places are interpreted in a collection by three artists from Wirral and North Wales - Karl Hughes, Nesta Eluned and Clare Flinn. The exhibition runs until Saturday 17th May and the gallery is open Thursday - Saturday, 10am - 4pm.
West Kirby Farmers’ Market takes place on Saturday 26 April from 9am - 12 midday at St Andrew’s Church.
The Friends of Ashton Park hold their annual May Fair on Monday 5 May from 10am - 4pm. There will be a children’s fair, donkey rides, entertainment, model boats on the lake and much more! Admission is free.
Free salsa dance classes are being held at the West Kirby Tap on Mondays at 7.15pm. No experience is needed and you don’t even need to bring a partner - just turn up! For more information email jholloway@btinternet.com.
