Flood defence wall officially opened
West Kirby’s new £16 million flood wall has been officially opened by Mayor Jeff Green and the Chief Executive of the Environment Agency.
Sections of the promenade are now open, although work to install flood gates, Victorian shelters and resurface the road won’t be completed until towards the end of June. Read more.
Developer wins fire station apartments appeal
New build flats will be constructed on the site of the former West Kirby Fire Station after a planning inspector overruled Wirral Council, describing its decision to throw out the scheme as ‘confused and illogical’.
Developer Blueoak Estates will now build 32 apartments on the land, off Orrysdale Road. Read more.
Wilson Trophy sets sail
The 74th Wilson Trophy takes place on the Marine Lake in West Kirby, starting today and continuing all weekend.
West Kirby Sailing Club is hosting the event from Friday 12 May until Sunday 14 May. Read more.

Things to do!
West Kirby Handcrafted Market takes place at St Andrew’s Church Hall on Saturday 13 May from 10am - 3pm. There will be more than 20 stalls and a cafe.
Hoylake Artisan Market takes place at The Ship Inn on Saturday 27 May from 11am - 4pm, including handmade gifts, original art and food.
